Home Energy Audits

Is your house or building cold, drafty, or uncomfortable? Do you have high energy bills? Ice dams? Peeling paint? Excessive dust? Addressing these types of home problems can make your home more comfortable, and at the same time improve its energy efficiency — saving you money on utility bills and helping to protect the environment too.

An energy audit is the first step in making your home more efficient. An audit will help you assess how much energy your home uses and evaluate what improvements need to be made to increase the buildings efficiency.

During the audit your Free Energy consultant will go through a series of calibrated tests, visual inspections, depressurization tests and even thermographic scans when applicable. Throughout the audit your energy consultant will review the results of your homes analysis, discuss the recommended improvements and assess the available tax incentives for your project.

The audit will establish a benchmark of your homes performance and provide the required guidance for moving forward. We will highlight the inefficiencies found and work with you to prioritize the recommended improvements.

Our audit service usually takes 3 – 4 hours to complete. Customers can expect a detailed analysis report within 7 days after testing. Your energy consultant will also provide an itemized scope of work for the recommended improvements.

Who can benefit most from receiving an Energy Audit?

    • Homeowners who are unhappy with their current building performance and cost of ownership in their current residence.
    • Anyone who is planning to upgrade their home with various improvements
    • Property owners would like to increase their rent premiums and current market value of their investment.
    • Small business’s who are concerned in increasing their buildings efficiency and lowering monthly utility bills.
    • Real Estate professionals who are interested in offering energy efficient solutions and creating a competitive edge in their market.
    • Owners that want to do the right thing for their home and our environment.

What to do to prepare for an audit:

Before the energy auditor visits your house, make a list of any existing problems such as condensation and uncomfortable or drafty rooms. Have copies or a summary of the home's yearly energy bills. Auditors can use this information to compare energy losses and asses cost-effectiveness of applicable upgrades.

Before the Audit:

  1. No wood burning fires for 48 hours prior to an audit. Clean ashes from fireplaces.

Close and latch all exterior windows and doors for building shell testing.

Have 12 - 24 months of utility bills (gas and electric) handy

The auditor also will analyze the residents' behavior (to name a few):

  2. Is anyone home during working hours?

What is the average thermostat setting for summer and winter?

How many people live here?

Is every room in use?

Your answers may help uncover some simple ways to reduce your household's energy consumption. Please walk through your home with the auditors as they work, and ask questions. We take great pride in our work and if given the opportunity we will extend that pride to your project.
